Description

DNA Gel Loading Solution, 5X is prepared according to Sambrook, Fritsch & Maniatis. The purpose of this reagent is to be a tracking dye during electrophoresis. It ensures that DNA samples remain submerged in the wells of the gel, by making them denser than the electrophoresis buffer.

Applications

The dye in DNA Gel Loading Solution has a slight negative charge and will migrate the same direction as DNA, allowing the user to monitor the progress of molecules moving through the gel. The rate of migration varies with gel composition.

DNA Gel Loading Solution, 5X is suitable for: use with agarose or non-denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), DNA gel electrophoresis, Northern and Southern blot analysis, and most commonly loading and tracking of DNA samples on electrophoretic gels.
