Description
Enterokinase (EK) is a serine protease produced by cells of the duodenum, and is involved in mammalian digestion. It plays the role of turning trypsinogen to the active form of trypsin, and indirectly activates the pancreatic digestive enzymes. Enterokinase is a specific protease that cleaves after a lysine at its cleavage site: Asp-Asp-Asp-Asp-Lys. Enterokinase does not function if the cleavage site is followed by a proline. |
