| Key Applications |
|
| Application Notes | flow cytometry: 10 μg/mL Immunoprecipitation: Immunoprecipitation of VLA-2 integrins from lysate of 10E6 cell equivalent requires 2-5 μg of BHA2.1 immunohistochemistry in frozen tissue sections: 5 μg/mL Does not detect alpha2 integrin subunit by Western blot presumably due to conformational properties of the epitope involved. The epitope for BHA2.1 is dependent on the presence of the (I) domain of alpha2 integrin subunit and does not bind VLA-2 variant which lacks the I-domain. Function Blocking: BHA2.1 inhibits VLA-2 mediated cell adhesion to collagen and laminin; complete inhibition can generally be achieved at a final concentration of 10 μg/mL. Final working dilutions must be determined by end user. |

| Entrez Gene Number |
|
| Entrez Gene Summary | This gene product belongs to the integrin alpha chain family. Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane glycoproteins composed of a distinct alpha chain and a common beta chain. They are found on a wide variety of cell types including, T cells, fibroblasts and platelets. Integrins are involved in cell adhesion and also participate in cell-surface mediated signalling. |

| UniProt Summary | FUNCTION: SwissProt: P17301 # Integrin alpha-2/beta-1 is a receptor for laminin, collagen, collagen C-propeptides, fibronectin and E-cadherin. It recognizes the proline-hydroxylated sequence G-F-P-G-E-R in collagen. It is responsible for adhesion of platelets and other cells to collagens, modulation of collagen and collagenase gene expression, force generation and organization of newly synthesized extracellular matrix. SIZE: 1181 amino acids; 129295 Da SUBUNIT: Heterodimer of an alpha and a beta subunit. Alpha-2 associates with beta-1. Interacts with HPS5. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. DOMAIN: SwissProt: P17301 The integrin I-domain (insert) is a VWFA domain. Integrins with I-domains do not undergo protease cleavage. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the integrin alpha chain family. & Contains 7 FG-GAP repeats. & Contains 1 VWFA domain. |
