| Description | Anti-Thymosin beta-4 Antibody |
| Alternate Names |
|
| Background Information | Thymosin beta-4 is the most prevalent of the cytoplasmic G-actin binding proteins belonging to the highly conserved thymosin beta family. Known to bind actin monomers, Thymosin beta-4 sequesters G-actin in a manner that prevents actin polymerization. Thymosin beta-4 plays several important roles including induction of tissue remodeling, wound healing in both cell and tissue injuries, and cell differentiation via mechanisms that have yet to be fully elucidated. It is involved in the regulation of the cytoskeleton, and thereby influences an array of cellular processes. Within the brain, Thymosin beta-4 is associated with the neurite extension and migration of neurons. Expression has been observed in various hemopoietic and lymphoid malignant cell lines. |

| UniProt Summary | FUNCTION: Plays an important role in the organization of the cytoskeleton (by similarity). Binds to and sequesters actin monomers (G actin) and therefore inhibits actin polymerization. Seraspenide inhibits the entry of hematopoeitic pluripotent stem cells into the S-phase (by similarity). SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm › cytoskeleton. TISSUE SPECIFICTY: Expressed in several hemopoietic cell lines and lymphoid malignant cells. Decreased levels in myeloma cells. INDUCTION: By alpha interferons. Decreased levels in THP-1 cells after treatment with recombinant interferon-lambda. SEQUENCE SIMILARITIES: Belongs to the thymosin beta family. |
