| Description | Anti-Interleukin-18 (IL-18) Antibody |
| Alternate Names |
|
| Background Information | IL-18 has been shown to be a pro-inflammatory cytokine that induces interferon-gamma. IL-18 has also been found to have the ability to activate nuclear factor-kappaB (NFkB), express Fas ligand, induce CC and CXC chemokines, and also has been found to increase the production of viable human immunodeficiency virus. IL-18 has been linked to syndromes displaying symptoms of chronic low-levels of inflammation. IL-18 also seems to have some control over homeostasis and behavior in the central nervous system as well as neuroinflammatory activity. |

| Entrez Gene Number |
|
| Entrez Gene Summary | The protein encoded by this gene is a proinflammatory cytokine. This cytokine can induce the IFN-gamma production of T cells. The combination of this cytokine and IL12 has been shown to inhibit IL4 dependent IgE and IgG1 production, and enhance IgG2a production of B cells. IL-18 binding protein (IL18BP) can specifically interact with this cytokine, and thus negatively regulate its biological activity. [provided by RefSeq]. |
