Sigma-Aldrich Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate

Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate (CuSO₄·5H₂O, blue vitriol) is a hydrated copper(II) salt. It undergoes hydrothermal reactions with the tripodal ligands to afford metal-organic frameworks (MOFs).[1] CuSO₄·5H₂O along with metallic copper was employed as catalyst for the synthesis of different ligand-arm functionalized azoamides.[2] On heating above 560°C, it decomposes to CuO.[3]

Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate may be employed for the following studies:

• As catalyst for the acetylation of alcohols and phenols under solvent-free conditions.[4]
• To compose the electrolyte for the electrodeposition of Cu-Zn-Sn precursors, required for the preparation of Cu₂ZnSnS₄ (CZTS) thin films.[5]
• As catalyst for the dehydration of alcohols.[3]
