Background	NCAM (neural cell adhesion molecule) is an adhesion glycoprotein with five extracellular immunoglobulin-like domains followed by two fibronectin type III repeats. Two NCAM paralogs (NCAM1 and NCAM2) are encoded in the mammalian genome, which encode NCAM/NCAM1 and NCAM2 proteins, respectively (1,2). As an adhesion molecule with brain-enriched expression, NCAM2 functions to drive axonal targeting, neurite branching, and synaptic development (2-4). NCAM2 is also genetically linked to Down syndrome and may play a role in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (2,5).
