This rich medium was used to culture the hepatocytes derived from an enrichment procedure also developed by Dr. Williams and his colleagues in 1971. The work on hepatocytes from the newborn led to attempts to culture adult liver on a long-term basis. Williams’ Medium E has unique components that make it a reduced serum-supplemented medium.
