Brew Plate™ Overview

The Brew Plate™ line offers testing kits and bulk media to help brewers detect common microbes responsible for contamination during brewing. Contaminated samples can be sent to the Brew Plate Laboratory for microbial identification.

Kits test 5 contamination points, and bulk sleeves contain 25 plates with media for yeast detection. All plates from the kits are available for bulk purchase, with free sequence identification included in each bulk sleeve order.

Yeast Aerobic Quad Plate Media

• Quadrant 1: Lin’s Cupric Sulfate Media (LCSM) detects non-Saccharomyces wild yeast and inhibits brewer’s yeast growth.
• Quadrant 2: Lee’s Multi-Differential Agar (LMDA) detects bacterial and yeast contamination. It identifies lactic acid-producing bacteria such as Lactobacillus and Acetobacter by changing the media color from green to yellow.
• Quadrant 3: Lin’s Wild Yeast Media (LWYM) detects all wild yeast, including wild Saccharomyces strains, and inhibits brewer’s yeast.
• Quadrant 4: Wallerstein Nutrient Media (WLN) is non-selective, detecting wild yeast, pitching yeast, and common bacterial contaminants.
