General Description

GranuCult^®PALCAM agar (Base) provides quantitative cultivation ofListeria monocytogenesand inhibits the accompanying Gram-negative and most of the Gram-positive bacteria. Polymyxin, acriflavin, ceftazidime, and lithium chloride result in the selectivity of the medium.L. monocytogenesbreak down the esculin in the medium to glucose and esculetin. Esculetin forms an olive-green to black complex with iron (III) ions, which stains the colonies ofL. monocytogenes. Mannitol-positive accompanying bacteria such asStaphylococcigrow as yellow colonies if they are not inhibited.

Application

GranuCult^®PALCAM agar (Base) is suitable for the detection and isolation ofListeria monocytogenesfrom feces, biological samples, foodstuffs, and heavily contaminated material from the environment.
